Elsa’s Kopje

Elsa’s Kopje is a luxurious oasis perched on top of Mughwango Hill in the untamed wilderness of the Meru National Park, Kenya. Elsa’s is named after the orphaned lioness reared and then released into the wild by George and Joy Adamson. The lioness was the inspiration for the film “Born Free”.

Elsa’s Kopje consists of nine stone and thatched cottages, perched on a hillside with magnificent views over the surrounding park. The cottages have been designed to incorporate the natural features of the rocky hillside and are distanced from each to create a sense of privacy. Your family will be kept well occupied with day and night game drives in open sided safari vehicles, guided walks around the park, excursions to the Kora National park, rafting on the Tana River and fishing. You will also be able to enjoy visits to the Tharaka tribal village on the southern boundary of the park.

The Meru National Park is vast and arid with open plains dotted with Baobab trees and lush vegetation stretching out along 13 rivers that bisect the park. The park is renowned for its large elephant herds, beautiful fauna and scenery and you will see a diverse range of species including oryx, gerenuk, zebra, reticulated giraffe, lesser kudu, grants gizelle, leopard, lion, cheetah, rhino and the rare, elusive greater kudu. The birdlife is also prolific with riverine and forest species as well as the arid dry country species.

Your family will be well looked after by the highly trained team at Elsa’s and you will be made to feel at home by the welcoming hosts who manage the lodge.
