
Wild dog
- The tip of the tail of the wild dog is white and is used to signal to other dogs in the pack when hunting at night
- Unlike other dogs in the dog family which have five toes – wild dogs only have four toes on their forelegs
- Unlike other predators wild dogs hunt during the day being most active at dawn or dusk
- Wild dogs can reach speeds of up to 60km per hour and can sustain this for several miles
- Wild dogs are more successful hunter than lions or hyenas with a 38 -85 % success rate
- Wild dogs eat very quickly to avoid having their prey stolen by lions and hyenas. Nine dogs can eat 100kg of meat in just 15 minutes.
